Moonsault is out now and I truly hope you enjoy this one!
I grew up watching professional wrestling mostly due to my father, who was a pretty big wrestling fan. I attended a few WWF (yes, before the name change) shows, including one in Austin, Texas in which Stone Cold Steve Austin was covered in several pints of red paint to look like blood. In high school, I was the person still watching wrestling and ordering ECW videocassette tapes from Philly, or trying to find rare Cactus Jack matches from Japan. This wasn’t before the Internet or anything, but I didn’t have the Internet at the time, so I had to rely on ordering by mail.
I don’t really watch wrestling anymore, but I do follow it from time to time just to see who is on top, and what is happening. To research this series I had to get back into it to some degree, and to do so I caught up on some of the newer franchises like AEW, and watched a bunch of documentaries recommended to me by my font designer, Shawn, who is a big wrestling fan.
I have always been a huge X-Men/superhero fan and an avid comic book reader. Well over a year ago I had the idea of combining a pro-wrestling inspired science fantasy series with superpowers, which I would title Moonsault. It took me a while, but I started building the MPW (Moonsault Professional Wrestling) roster at the start of fall 2020, and as it developed, it turned into a bounty hunter thing in which these superpowered aliens who live on earth hunt bounties while leading double lives as wrestlers.
Moonsault is a wild and fun story, it’ll be super nostalgic for some who have watched wrestling, and the memorable characters will definitely reach other readers who haven’t dipped their toes into pro-wrestling. The setting is one of my favorites I’ve used to date—Atlantic City—and to capture this I visited the city and did my best to pay homage to its history and unique setting (from the Boardwalk to the casino restaurants) into Moonsault!
That’s enough from me. Enjoy the hell out of this one, tell a friend, keep on reading, and thanks for your reviews! And be sure to look out for the audiobook coming soon narrated by Daniel Wisniewski and Jessica Threet (who are going to slay this so hard, please prepare your ears.)
